What is "hang up" in a candle

Wat is "hang up" in een kaars

"Hang up" in a candle occurs when the wax sticks to the sides during burning, creating a rim or buildup of wax along the side of the candle. Unlike tunneling, where the candle continues to burn with a narrow well around the wick, "hang up" in soy wax candles can often be caught up on subsequent burns.

Why does this happen and how do you fix it?

Soy wax burns slower and cools faster than other types of wax, making "hang up" more common. It can also occur if I choose a wick that is not too large; this ensures the candle doesn't get too hot for the jar, but can initially cause some "hang up" or sometimes leave some permanent residue. In subsequent burns, the candle will often melt further and catch up with the hanging wax.

Make sure you burn the candle long enough with each burn (at least 4 hours) so that the wax has a chance to melt further and correct the "hang up." By burning your candle properly, "hang up" usually disappears on its own, and you'll enjoy your soy candle longer!
