What is "hang up" in a candle

Wat is "hang up" in een kaars

"Hang up" in a candle occurs when the wax sticks to the sides as it burns, creating a ridge or buildup of wax along the side of the candle. Unlike tunneling, where the candle continues to burn with a narrow well around the wick, "hang up" in soy wax candles can often be corrected in subsequent burns.

Why does this happen and how do you fix it?

Soy wax burns slower and cools faster than other types of wax, which is why "hang up" is more common. It can also occur if I choose a wick that is not too large; this ensures that the candle does not get too hot for the jar, but can cause some "hang up" in the beginning or sometimes some remains. With subsequent burnings, the candle will often melt further and catch up with the hung wax.

Make sure you burn your candle long enough each time (at least 4 hours) so that the wax has a chance to melt further and correct the "hang up". By burning your candle properly, "hang up" usually disappears by itself and you can enjoy your soy candle longer!
